The Importance of Doing Nothing....Especially with Your Beloved

Ayurveda, Connection and Sexual Nourishment

One of the most discussed topics with my clients is having time for oneself or with a partner.  Time; these days for most of us, myself included, is measured by one activity after another.  Sexual connection was once a sacred bond between partners is now relegated to an activity just above clearing out clutter for the donation center.  We do It because somewhere simmering just below our conscious mind is the thought that tells us  “We better do it or else.” Tired, feeling unfulfilled and perfunctory we go through the motions. Let’s talk about the or else and a couple of important ways to declutter those thoughts to the Useless - Thoughts - Donation Center.

Or else, in western culture is a mind field of expectations steeped with cultural stereotypes that barely leaves room for meaningful connection and a path towards divine bliss. If we don’t do it, we start to measure ourselves against an inflexible norm. These mind loops nourish our anxiety rather than our connection. In Ayurveda our sexual health is an intrinsic part of our physical being~ness. Finding connection with another and our inner Beloved, awakens our divinity and transcends beyond the physical act.

When was the last time you did nothing? Rather than seeking connection by doing, try connection through doing nothing. Best connections are created when our physical presence is at rest and there are no outside distractions. An appreciation of yours and a partners physicality, heightens our feelings of security and grounds us in our bodies. The Soul has time to settle in the beauty of our physicality and within this nothingness exists the power to connect. If that space between you and a Beloved is filled with “or else’s”, cleaning house, work stuff…you’re going to feel it and that’s going to make connection let alone sex feel like a monumental feat. Allow those thoughts to come in and when they do as they always do….focus in on how much you love something about them. A doing nothing space will get you back to non verbal communication that enhances our feelings of knowing who we are inside and out. This physical awareness when we make the space to connect grows our desire to unite.

Sexual nourishment is not a diet; it’s a way of living. In Ayurveda our Ojas or vital energy is the essential foundation for our bodies. Living ayurveda’s goal is to preserve this vital energy. Maintaining a dosha appropriate diet, exercise, following the seasons and aware sexuality supports our mental, emotional and physical bodies. Living this each day opens the possibility of reaching a heightened sense of divinity and the desire to seek out your Beloved.
