Connection that inexplicable feeling of being a part of One's tribe, place, another and culture.
What drives this feeling of belonging? Is it instinctual? Social programming?
It's all of that and a physical vortex of energy called a Torus, that exists in everything. A Torus as defined by Merriam-Webster "a surface or solid formed by rotating a closed curve, especially a circle, around a line that lies in the same plane but does not intersect it e.g., like a ring-shaped doughnut." Yes it's not a very sexy description for an energy field that exits everywhere and in everything. Yet it's what radiates from within us. The strongest point is the heart center emanating electrical impulses that guides us in the direction of finding connection. In this article I'll share with you some of my more toroidal moments and how I find connection.
We move through and create toroidal fields every second of our lives. Molding perceptions, heightening consciousness and triggering an impulse within our hearts that says Yes to that which we love. Ultimately navigating us to the supreme feeling of being connected. Letting go in this stream of consciousness requires trust of the infinite possibilities that this field offers us. Think about your favorite tree. It's trunk the inner tube or donut hole of the Torus, energy circulating from above and below. Roots taking in nutrients and the canopy synthesizing oxygen and sunlight. There is this elegant California Oak in my new backyard. Every time I come home from a long day I hear it rustling about. I look over and the leaves are dancing even if there isn't any wind. I enter it's field the outer edges of it's torus lightens my mood. Reminding me of the forgotten connection I have to earth and sky.
I use this dynamic energy in my practice. Parsing through this field I receive information that allows me to understand the imbalances that are present and the woven interconnections between the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual bodies. I am conscious of that delicate seam of where I begin and Another begins. At this edge is where particle physics does it's magic. Communication and connection takes place at this edge. The language is love. Heart rate lowers, endorphins start circulating and our bodies innate ability to achieve coherence and heal begins. It is in this space, at the subatomic level that our interactions can impact lasting change. When I am with a client, making this connection drops me into this meditative space and that's when I experience my own inexplicable connection.
My toroidal field led me to find an accomplished and gifted Argentine Tango teacher, Marcelo Solis.
At his school Escuela de Tango Buenas Aires One is transported to another time and primordial way of connection. I was wanting to go back to my first love dance. Watching films about Milongeros; a Dancer of the close embrace social dance of Buenas Aires, dancing intricate and most times improvised steps with strangers amazed me. How quickly they connected and were able to move together with ease. Argentine Tango was formed at the turn of 20th century Argentina, where men mostly found the company of woman through social dance known as a Milonga. Connection from the heart and respect of each other is tantamount. In contrast, I was trained in an exacting Cecchetti discipline of ballet. My body wired in this precise way where individual performance was more important than tuning into the dancers around me. Now I am juxtaposed with Marcelo's patient training, connected Torus and ethos of a Milonguero. His connection has heightened my awareness on my toroidal field and how much I am not using it.
The Embrace elevates the concept of connection when Milonguero's come together to dance. Remember the scene in Avatar when a Na'vi is chosen to ride with a winged creature? Their long plated neural tendrils makes a connection to the creatures inner neural field i.e.Torus and off they fly. Argentine Tango is exactly that.
And that is a subtle, consensual and profound connection with another Being. Sensing and listening to the field of your partner places this dance for me on a higher plane of understanding Self. Your mental chatter about how am I dancing goes away and for as long as your focus remains on The Connection one can be aligned with another indefinitely. It is in this space that I have felt a sense of euphoria and connection. Milongueros are nourished by this energy field and converse lyrically through each others movements. No wonder Argentine Tango has been described as vertical love making. If you are wanting a deeper understanding of connection through dance let your Torus lead you to Marcelo and Escuela de Tango.

My colleague and friend Lisette Narragon; Homeopathist and owner of Bay Area Homeopathy and I will be featuring monthly health videos called Living Well. First topic is staying healthy during stressful times. First posting in April.
Until then embrace your tree, dance with your partner or furry friend. Can You count the moments of connection in this video taken at my 2012 Finding Equilibrium Retreat at Liz Mitten Ryan's Equinisity Ranch?
Our Mom Mary, 92 years young is a testament in a lifetime of connecting into The Universal Torus. Nine weeks after her femoral ball and femur replacement she is back to teaching yoga twice a week, walking without a cane and standing up against gun violence.
