My Father tried his best to understand my sensitive side.
His emotions bottled by culture, social climate and a born stoic.
I, overly expressive, sensitive and clairsentient.
Everything was a Matter for me.
My escape; wilderness.
I love the forest; especially a Redwood forest.
While on a family camping trip,
I asked him if my room can be made of redwood.
He looked back at me and said, "we shall see."
The summer of 1973,
Dad brought into the backyard long roughly hewn planks of redwood.
(Later on I learned the wood was salvaged from a building.)
Got out his hand saw and began making even lengths.
Those redwood planks he methodically lined my smallish room.
Giving me my own redwood forest in our home.
In which to wild, wonder and express.
May you find those tender nuggets of Father-tried-his-best expressions this Father's Day.
