Two Ways To Burn A Bra

When I think about being a female, the image that populates my brain is the gentle nudge of a doting animal Mama caring for her offspring.
Or the warmth of my mother’s smile enveloping me.
Human female iconography, in my experiences,
is way more diverse,
controversial,
front and center.
Tempered by strident intelligent beautiful humans
who taught me how to roll with my femininity.

Dolly Parton was a true original and a curiosity to me.
The extreme living Barbie that had a voice and
an intelligence that was one step ahead of everyone.
She a social chess piece playing out as a sweet yet strategic influencer
for men and women,
on being powerful,
being just.
Her protests were on stage, tv and in our dreams.
Wearing flamboyant outfits, emphasizing her assets, being the joke
whilst in absolute command of her femininity and future.
Her bra burns spectacular with society and reaching much farther than her humble beginnings in the Smokey Mountains of Tennessee.
She is an inimitable presence that will continue to level up the feminine kind.

Gloria Steinem is my rock star.
The long lithe figure, straight hair, mesmerizing eyes
and subtle take no prisoners influence for feminine rights
whether born with either genitalia…she wrapped that side of me
that was afraid to voice female with concrete bravery.
When Ms. was published it was my first subscription.
When she joined with minority women to engrave equality for all,
I was able to rejoice for my mother, who didn’t have time to burn her bras as she was growing up three daughters.
She had a Sister to stand for her and all of us.
Her sword of justice, was communication with others, with everyone;
foe or friend.
It was her ability to bring us together that has cast the foundation and ethos of burning bras;
a civic duty for all of us to carry on.

There are many ways to burn our bras.
Dolly and Gloria did it with verve, grace, intelligence and unstoppable humor.
The She’s (throughout history) are looking down on us,
wrapping us up with their warmth,
nudging us to to be brave
Go on,
and do our duty to further
justice for all
and burn our bras.

OMwards!

Celebrating Samhain, All Hallow’s Eve and Dia de los Meurtas

I stumbled upon Autumn with gratitude as the dark begins to descend,
the colour of the plants have one last splash and all begin to harvest and prepare for the winter.
Celebrating those who have crossed over gets a special exclamation mark, now that the dark, cold and the fire within begs to be stoked.
Here’s to all of your kin, friends and famous who are helping us stoke that inner fire from the other side.
May you celebrate with ease and joy.
May you feel their presence as the veil between the worlds thins.
Blessings

Still in my heart, Nepal and Tibet glacier disaster.
May All Beings Be Safe and At Peace.
